Brick Repairs & Repointing — Essex
Brick repair and repointing works to a residential property, addressing spalled bricks and failed mortar joints across the front elevation.
The Challenge
Several bricks on the front elevation had spalled badly due to frost damage and previous use of an incompatible cement mortar. The damaged bricks needed to be cut out and replaced with matching stock, and the surrounding joints prepared and repointed.
How I Approached It
Damaged bricks were cut out using an angle grinder with dust extraction to control airborne dust and avoid disturbing the surrounding masonry. Matching second-hand stock bricks were sourced to blend with the existing elevation. Once the new bricks were bedded in, all affected joints were prepared and repointed with a lime mortar to match.
The Result
The repaired elevation looks consistent and the client was relieved to have the problem properly resolved rather than patched over. The lime mortar will allow the wall to breathe and prevent the same issue recurring.
